Hi everyone.

Since this is probably the last post on the forum in 2025, I wish you all the best in the New Year!

For a long time now, I've been thinking about returning to our good old game.
I'm missing a few options.

I need a few things. I think some of them are fairly easy to handle, but I'm not sure about the rest.

I need to change the default resolution option to higher values as they come to current devices instead of setting them manually.

I know that the game engine has a lot of limitations. The question is, can anything be added to it, e.g., additional graphics settings?

What interests me the most is adding gamepad control. But not using an external program, but directly in the game.

Maybe some of you have thought about this too?

Happy new year!

Would probably be possible to add that but I'm not releasing any updates for this game anymore.

The game is open source so you can download and modify it with Blitz3d (which is also free)
Source: https://www.unrealsoftware.de/get.php?get=stranded2v1001source.zip&p=1
Blitz3D: https://blitzresearch.itch.io/blitz3d

Unfortunately most of the pages and documentations for Blitz3D seem to be offline by now. I think there's a built-in documentation though and I'm pretty sure that Blitz3D has controller support and allows you to freely pick any resolution which is supported by the hardware you're using.

Also, if you just want to change the resolution for yourself, there's an easy hack to do so:
- open
1
<your Stranded II folder>/mods/Stranded II/sys/settings.cfg
with a text editor
- change line 2 (probably says something like 800) to the HORIZONTAL screen resolution in pixels
- change line 3 (probably says something like 600) to the VERTICAL screen resolution in pixels
- save
- start

the game should now have the defined resolution (if you specified a valid one). Not sure what happens when you go to the settings and save them. That might reset the resolution or do other weird stuff. Note however that the UI does not scale and might be tiny if you pick high resolutions. Changing this would be a major effort.

The only thing about resolution would be scaling of GUI with some simple math and possible enhanced texture resolution. Also I've noticed that all textures are mipmaped so maybe switching to anisotrophy filtering would be nice or implement bumpmapping but its a lot of work for it. Remaking it on other engine would be more satisfactorily. I've tried it but gave up because it require modding support and reading deffinitions to its own respectfull engine logic etc. its quite demanding for me
