Yep i cant even get that far.

Whenever clicking on the .exe application a small black window pops up for maybe a second and closes.

I'm running windows 7 64 bit
6970 graphics card

Drivers and all updated

So i do realize there is a windows 7 patch but idk if im installing it wrong or not.

Im not dumb with computers. This is just a frustrating problem that ive encountered with and Decided might as well get on the forums and try my luck.

If you could give a list of steps on how to install...(god such a noob question)

Im sure i was doing it the right way.

I even tried running it as administrator but no show still.

The location of the folder might also influence if it works or not. Have you tried installing (or better: extracting) S2 into a folder on your desktop?

Also, have you tried starting S2 in windowed mode (I dunno if the necessary .bat files are already included).

did you extract the files in the zip folder to a place where the game has admin rights?
because in win7 programs dont have admin rights when they are e.g. unter "C:\Program Files\".

usually this causes problems for users since it doesnt allow the game to create save-files. maybe this causes your problem too, though most other users can run the game on win7 perfectly fine.


if it still doesnt work, try to run the exe in compability mode and/or with a high priority.


if this also doesnt work and if you know how to do this, set up a virtual machine on your PC, install win xp and DirectX etc on it and try to run the game from there.

Hurri04- Yeah when searching the forums i saw that and gave that a try also but same deal. I will probably have to try the virtual Xp though.

I did do a windows troubleshoot to see what it gave me and it tried running it in compatibility mode for windows xp SP2 then it did a windows detection and said gave "Incompatible Application" error.

This is so weird. I know i have up to date graphics. I wonder if i try installing some directX drivers for the hell of it might do the trick

So i tried the virtual XP and idk why but i still get the same problem. I click the .exe and the program starts for like a millisecond then it like stops its own process.

No idea whats going on. I even tried re installing my ATI drivers for my GFX card. Same deal.

The files are all on my desktop. Plus i have windows 7 64 bit with SP 1 installed....SO i dont think its a windows driver issue.

in general ATI graphics cards seem to have more problems with the game than nVidia but still, this shouldn't cause such mayor problems.

do you have a firewall on your system that could block the program?

I'm no expert for this kind of problem since I'm using win xp and everything runs fine, as for most people who use win7/vista.

do you have any other computer at hand to try and run the game there?

Well firewall was turned off and nothing but ohh well.

I think tomorrow imma go try it out on a laptop, that has xp so it will definitely work...try it on another laptop with win7 also.

I would like to point out i did find the problem. Apparently taskhost in the task manager was conflicting with the game so i just stopped the process and it works fine.
