If you are not interested in CS2D Lua scripting, you may ignore this thread.

Hello!
For a while now I've been interested in creating a Discord server that would be dedicated to assisting users in creating/fixing their Lua scripts, and allowing developers to contribute in assisting.
I don't know how many of you are interested in joining such a server, and that is why I've added a poll.

I've actually experimented with that idea, with a couple users on my private server, and it seems promising, so I'm willing to expand into a separate server solely for that purpose.

But I haven't told you how it's like yet!
So, the main idea would be to have 2 "main" roles:
Helper - Would assist in Lua development.
User - Would receive help.

It's incredibly simple, as it should be, and hopefully it can grow into a nice little development community and help people in the creation of creative servers.
I know how it feels like to have a great idea for a server, but to lack the knowledge on how to implement it.

And yes, I've seen the scripting channel in the official Unrealsoftware Discord server, but it seems lacking.
Mostly because the server isn't specifically made for that purpose, and is more of a general place to talk about simple things.

My server would (hopefully) offer a lot more, and together, I hope we can turn it into something useful for everyone.

Feel free to ask for more information or offer ideas in the comments!
Of course, if I won't see enough interest in this becoming a reality, then it probably won't be.
But we'll see!

@user Masea: No, you're free to offer and recieve help regardless of roles!

Don't get me wrong, please!

The idea is that a helper would be able to get @ tagged, it's a minor thing, but everything is in "idea" phase, the server doesn't even exist yet.

Also, it's easier to recognise who's able to help you and is online, at the moment you need them, so you can ping them!
I might even make the roles a thing you can attach/detach using a bot, so if you're busy "today" you can just remove it, so you won't get pinged!

It's all "free", nothing is restricted, the idea is to help and be helped!

@user Cebra: That could work, but I doubt I'll get administrative permissions on the official Discord server, and I also doubt that the current administrators would like to "focus" on my idea for their server.

Anyways, it really doesn't fit on the main Unrealsoftware Discord server.

And it's not a new "community", it's a new place for the community, like a fan made Wiki for example, those exist for pretty much everything.

I personally against the "Helper" role being mentionable. It can be abused simply by immature people. However, it's fine for name coloring and displaying online "Helper" on top of the normal users.

Still, can be abused by immature people simply by pinging anyone there one by one.

I'm against "helping/solutions in chats" and will continue to stand by my position, here's why.

Chats (be it Telegram or Discord) are precisely that: Real time chats.
Although it's not bad for some cases, they're essentially "deep web" or whatever you want to call it. Chats are not indexable. For every single question you have to spend that much time.
O(questions) if you will.

In contrast, Stackoverflow is available publicly to the Internet and most users arrive there through search engines.
If you answer a question one time, there's no need to answer it a second time, because the solution is easily to be found.
O(differentQuestions): no matter how many people have that one question, you only need to spend time once to answer it for everybody.

Chats waste everyone's time. If you would write it down in, sort of, an article - that'd be fine again. But nobody's going to do that. (write down solutions to their questions after they've been helped)

It is a sad development that nowadays you have got to know that a certain group chat exists and have joined it, to have access the information you can't find online.

@user MikuAuahDark: There will be moderators, and if you dislike being mentioned, you can opt-out of having that role altogether!
That role is completely optional, and only people who desire helping should wear it.

Roles are for looks only and are totally optional!

@user VADemon: Good point! In that case I can create a proper F.A.Q. for the server, and possibly more, if it'll work out!

@user VADemon: But even then Stack Overflow has chat rooms. I thought of this idea to be more instant compared to creating a whole thread for, say, relatively easy-to-solve question. Which makes sense in this case.

Many frameworks, game engines, libraries, and programming languages have their own dedicated chat rooms. Most use Discord. I can completely comprehend having a chat room completely focalised on CS2D scripting.

But I don't discern creating another while we already have one. Right now the roles thing is the only reason for you to create it. It does not suffice.

I want to completely focus on CS2D scripting, a server made for nothing more than just that.

It would be a shame to use the already exisiting Unrealsoftware Discord server for this, and it's barely being used for that to begin with.
Plus, I don't think any of the current administrators of the official Discord servers are interested in creating a bigger focus for that idea.

I see, you don't seem to grasp my vision of the idea, and I've long given up on trying to explain it.

That's okay though, I don't think the idea will work out anymore, at least not in the way I anticipated, I expected more support from the community.

Thank you for your votes and have a good day!

@user Mami Tomoe: Because you haven't told us anything other than just giving very shallow ideas. What exactly this server of yours will offer? Don't say it will offer many, say what it will exactly offer.

For example, tell us why it's a shame to use the existing server and why we should use yours instead? Just because there will be multiple rooms and roles? Not really.
