@user VADemon: Temp bans don't work like that. You can't miss them because their countdown is only triggered when the user who received them sees them the first time. So even 1 minute temp bans will ALWAYS be seen by users. No matter when they log in the next time.

I think the durations are the real problem for "unfair" temp bans.
The duration should be quite short for small violations. The default duration is currently 3 days though which is too high for the majority of violations. It might make sense to reduce this default value to something like 6 hours because at the moment I don't see many critical violations. So currently 6 hours or even less should be enough for most temp bans.

I don't think a 6 hour ban is "fair" as this is a forum, not a chat room. People won't post every minute anyway, so banning people for 1 to 3 days is quite normal for my perspective. They'll have some time to think about what they did wrong.

@user pirate of island: Hello, are you aware that you are a user just like any other person right here? Do you realise that same rules apply to you just like anyone else? Which means if you break a rule, you get banned. No warnings, no utty-tooti-patooti for you kiddo. You'll have to deal with getting banned when you break rules.
A good first step towards improvement would be to think for yourself what you did wrong instead of complaining to the moderation team about it √

@user Rainoth: I lol'd so hard dude what the...

@user pirate of island: What you wrote is just bullshit. You are not a special person or a superior being as everybody must follow the rules. I really don't see what's so hard to understand the rules and following them. Such a simple system that still however some people find it hard or tending to ignore it. Really embarrassing if I want to be honest. Of course, there were times when people messed up a bit and we people do mistakes, this is without a doubt which this is why there is the temporary ban. To show what mistake you did so you can refrain from it at doing other mistakes in the future.

However, breaking the rules frequently is another thing and it actually shows that you didn't a mistake at all as you are doing it as a purpose. Either you have a childish behavior, wasting your time or ignoring what mistake you did until going forward and decreasing your reputation slowly bit by bit.

TL;DR: Common sense is the key. If you don't have it, it's your problem.

This is sort of echoing what user DC has said, but most of the things moderators do, they do because of previous experience, and believe me when I say we've had plenty of experience with people breaking the rules.

Plenty of people go on breaking the rules in other sections - if you ban someone in the File Archive, they would just complain on the forum, or continue in the same vein on the forum. The complaining part is countered by banning people from the whole site for a certain period, to let them 'cool down' in a way. Introducing per-section bans would just lead to more complaining in other sections, which would cascade into more bans to the same person.

Of course, you can't stop people from being 'vindictive' or just salty because they got banned, but hopefully denying access to the site for a while lets them reassess their behaviour and not break the rules in the future.

I can't say anything about your 'unfair' bans, as I wasn't there to witness them. What I can say is that most mods try to be as neutral and just as possible - I know I do, and I know the current mod staff does as well. But in the end, we're still all human and prone to mistakes.

@user 0a: Wrong zeroarcanus, too much wrong, I do not even care about the duration they give me, even for a temp ban for 1 Year in Forums section (only) but if it was at everything, then it's very unfair..

@user DC: I'll repeat again, I'm not such a troll and I don't deserve to be t.banned on everything because it's unfair.. I don't break much rules, If there was only a rule breaking counter then I'll show you how it do goes..

@user pirate of island: it's was actually true, sorry.

For every single mod, especially the admin.. Adding at least a new restriction for mods, Warning 2/3 times at least before temp banning would be a good feature to the mods, because it goes wrong for me, if you guys doesn't feel it wrong for you because most people doesn't even care, they must just get out of here because it like getting banned from your school.
I'm learning things from us.de, if us.de didn't exist, well i wouldn't exist and my launguage wouldn't exist.. I just want to understand why not warning before temp banning.. It just the best way to do it.. Most of mods will say about this: Temp banning is warning people and they will never repeat such a thing they did, but most mods will just not understand this.. Please, I DO NOT! talk about duration, I talk about the place where i do get banned.

Well, I hope most mods will understand this because 50% of them will not. (not offencing)

off topic:Well now, I just noticeed that this topic got a little bit glitchy for me, and I fixed it.. and I saw a mod broke a rule.. gg rainoth, rainoth's bans his self ra

You got it all wrong. The temp ban IS the warning. The real punishment is the full ban that does not get lifted after a time period. Temp ban is not like being banned from school, temp ban is like having to do additional homework because you didn't follow school rules.

I don't really understand the gravity of your complaint. user ohaz is correct - the tempban is the warning (and I think he has a little more experience and say in the matter). If someone breaks the rules, they get tempbanned for a certain duration as negative reinforcement and to let them think about their behaviour. I know I only issue short tempbans to people I've not seen break the rules often, while repeat offenders get a harsher treatment. In the end it's still only a disciplinary measure, a warning. If you break the rules way too often or too much, you get a full ban - that's the punishment. What's the point in issuing warnings before issuing warnings before issuing bans, which is what you're suggesting?

Dude, I've been around since 2007. I've been moderator for quite a lot of years here. I think I know my way around here a bit better than you do As user EngiN33Rsaid, I have a litte more experience in that matter. The temp ban is the warning. You don't let a murderer go off with a "please don't do it again", you put him to prison. You don't let a thief off with a "please don't do it again", you put him to prison. Compared to that, a three day temp ban is really really nice.

@user Inflexion: All of your analogies don't make sense and are very exaggerated. Sections as different cellphones? Temp-ban is like school expulsion?

What is so significant about a full-section temp-ban, anyway?

I don't want to see a guy that got banned in another section of the site. You break the rules, you get banned. It's quite simple really. Just learn from what you did wrong and don't do it again instead of opening a thread like this.

@user pirate of island: Then that means you don't know how the moderation works here, don't you?

× If you break a rule, you'll get temp.banned. Simple as that. Whenever a moderator finds a user that broke a rule, it's only the mod's decision what he should do onto you. The temp.bans are used not just to punish the user but it is also used as a warning (user ohaz already explained it) to refrain at breaking the rules in the future.

× user EngiN33R did the right thing at temporary ban you because of your recent post ( > link: http://www.unrealsoftware.de/forum_posts.php?post=398530&start=0#post398536.) Even though you wanted to share your sadness but still it has nothing to do with the main topic discussion. Furthermore, the ban duration wasn't really long (something like 3 hours), seriously.

Just deal with it and stop worrying about temp.bans much. You are just wasting your time and the moderation team won't help you either because all of the recent moderation actions done by moderators are completely justified.

Now just ignore this topic, Thanks to every moderator and helper that replied to this topic. Thank you too @user DC:

@user pirate of island: Just stop breaking the illegal rules as @user GeoB99: said then it would be perfect.

For me, I got a permenant ban and I got unbanned, I actually just got a total of 4 bans, so I won't worry too much.

Thank you very much everyone.
