yah the AI is just random atm and therefore seriously stupid

it's the friction between players and the terrain. they will slide longer with low friction (make a totally even map to test it)

to check if its on the ground: perform a collision check at the position of the player with the y position increased by 1 (in other words: check if there is terrain 1 pixel below the player). use "colplayer" as collision graphic.
commands: http://www.carnagecontest.com/help_cmds.php?cat=collision

to check if it is close to the water you can compare the position of the player with the current water level ( cc cmd getplayery / cc cmd getwatery )

you can use a loop and move the "collision check position" downwards until it collides with terrain or until it reaches the water to see if the player will land on the ground or in the water when he falls.

Misc. files are empty and AI scripts will not be so popular, so i think, Misc. subcategory is enough. But... I like your idea!
